Translation:
...Behold I prepare to involve myself in my task with faithfulness. Help me please, dear G-d, in this, my profession that I should succeed. Put in my heart love of wisdom and of humankind. Distance me from desiring material possessions and from haughtiness, because these attributes conflict with love of truth and humankind. And thus, I plead that I should not be clouded in my important task. Strengthen my physical being to be ever prepared to save the rich and the poor, the good and the evil, the loving and the hateful; and that I should focus only on the illness of my patient. Instill in the hearts of my patients faith in me and my knowledge, that they should listen to my advice and follow my instructions. Distance them from the affliction of soothsayers, false healers, and those who practice the art of cunning, for these are harsh and cruel and raise unrealistic and foolish hopes. Allow my heart to hear the truthful voices of the wise scholars of my profession who desire to teach me understanding, as the field of wisdom is broad and great. Please strengthen me and empower my heart against those whose cleverness may cause me imperfection; that I should not deviate from the path of truth or objectivity. (translation by Gerald L. Fishman)
