I asked the general public of social media to send in ideas for an English verse that could be offered as an alternate English version of the current “O Jerusalem” design. I’m thankful for all the responses. I received some really interesting thoughts and ideas to think about in future designs. In the end, for this particular papercut, the winning verse was “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem”. The suggestion to use this commanding verse came from both Jews and Christians alike.
I have been working on this project for a few days now and I’m just about ready with a final product.
Here’s how it’s done: First, I write it in calligraphy. Then I cut it out by hand.
Then I combine the new center portion with the existing design:
I paint a brand new funky watercolor background:
And the result is pictured below. I still need to choose a mat color. Here’s where I need your help. I can’t decide which mat color to use. Please comment below with your opinion. Red? Fuchsia? Green? Off-white? Which color would you like to see surrounding Jerusalem??
Hmmm…To shake things up a bit, take a look at Jerusalem with part of another new background I painted this week:
Comments welcome. Please!! Thanks for being part of the process!
This new “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem” design (in one color scheme or another) will be available for purchase shortly and will appear on the Israel Page of the site . http://www.papercutjudaica.com/product-category/israel/
